Early one morning in 1980, Oscar met Mother Teresa for the first time. It was a meeting that had such an impact on him, that he later returned to India several times.
Kolkata was at the time an overcrowded city with many poor and sick people. With simple means, Mother Teresa had started the Missionaries of Charity in 1950 to help the very poor.
For several years, Oscar was the project leader for
the building and operation of a hospital in Kolkata.
At the same time, he organized work with pavement schools, together with local aid organizations.
When Oscar lived and worked with Mother Teresa’s monastic order in Kolkata, he was able to follow the brothers to the poorest areas. There, he documented Mother Teresa’s work and everyday life, in photos and drawings.
