17 Swedish designers : chez Pascale
Utgiven av:Bokförlaget Langenskiöld
Swedish design is internationally renowned. Women have played an important role in that design from an early stage. At first they excelled primarily in the field of textiles traditionally a womens domain then came ceramics and subsequently glass.
The seventeen designers presented here carry on and enhance a tradition of dynamic and talented women. Nowadays they work as a matter of course in all imaginable design fields, often in an interdisciplinary way with various methods and materials: in textiles, glass, ceramics, wood and metal, as interior designers, and with furniture, industrial and graphic design.
These inspiring portraits were created by some of Sweden´s best-known design writers: Ulf Beckman, Dan Gordan, Hedvig Hedqvist, Lotta Lewenhaupt and Rebecka Tarschys. Susanne Helgeson draws a personal portrait of Pascale Cottard-Olsson, the woman behind the design gallery where all seventeen have exhibited. Design historian Kerstin Wickman presents the historical background. Carl Hjelte is responsible for the perceptive photography, multiple award-winning designer Patric Leo created the graphic design, and specialist design translator Fenela Childs produced the English text.
